haleakala at sunrise - how I got the shot

The background photo on our FAQ page is the incredible moment of the sunrise at the top of Haleakala on the beautiful island of Maui in Hawaii. To shoot the sunrise at Haleakala you have to travel to the top of the mountain in the middle of the night. Even though it is Hawaii, the top is so cold you have to bundle up in winter garb no matter the season, as the temperature drops to about 40 degrees. At the moment of sunrise, you have to be ready.
